Last night we stayed in the car park of the largest French military cemetery in the world, Notre Dame De La Lorette. Chris's Grandfather was involved in the making of the stained glass windows here after the war. The ground was strategically very important in the first world war where there was a series of long drawn out battles. Opposite the Notre Dame De la Lorette stands a lantern tower which houses one of the ossuaries and whose lighthouse is visible for miles around.

A guard of honour, made up of volunteers, are here for visitors and have been since 1920. They revive every Sunday, the flame in memory of all those killed. Was a little eerie as it was pitch black and howling all night but otherwise quiet and peaceful 😄

Chris' Grandfather actually installed the Stained Glass windows into the church.
