Have had a lovely few days meandering up the river Rhine. Visited Bingen for food shopping and to see the castle. Bingen am Rhein is a town in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The settlement's original name was Bingium, a Celtic word that may have meant "hole in the rock", a description of the shoal behind the Mäuseturm, known as the Binger Loch. (Wikipedia, 2019). Visited the Christmas market of all nations in Rudesheim. Rüdesheim is known for winemaking, especially of Riesling wines. Lovely buildings in the centre but difficult to see as the market stalls cover them so hard to take good photos.Visited the city of St. Goar. It's named after a man who built a hermitage, a chapel and a hospice just below the dangerous rapids in the Rhine. He took care of travellers and sick people and fed the poor. The Rhine Gorge is a UNESCO world heritage site. Above the town stands ruins of Burg Rheinfels, one of the many castles, towers, and churches for which the Rhine is known for. Across the river lies the sister town with the Mouse Castle. So many castles it's amazing. The weather hasn't been great, very grey and low cloud which made seeing some of the sites A little difficult. It must get so busy here in summer. It's a lovely quiet time to visit but also lots of the castles are closed and they're doing renovations so some not worth photographing. Still worth visiting it here and it feels like new experiences and we are pleased to have spent time in Germany as there's so much to see. Missing the sun a bit now we have lots of ☔☔☔☔☔☔☔😱😄🙏
Florry Crosses over the Rhine. We stayed on the West side going up the Rhine in Bingen and crossed over to Rudesheim. Costs were 8 euros for Florry to cross but you can also cross over as a foot passenger. Stayed on a quiet Aire in Bingen for 11euros a night which includes electrics. nice walk along the river and very big parking spots too as you see in the last pictures
