Amazing free parking for a night in Llivia. Everyone is so friendly. Across from where we parked is a communal BBQ area and picnic tables and a nice river. Out of season we seem to have the field to ourselves and with surrounding views. Llívia is a town in Cerdanya, of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. It is a Spanish village surrounded by the French department of the Pyranees.
The last 354 years it's been separated from its homeland, a small piece of Spain some five kilometers within French territory in the Pyrenees.Catalan flags predominate, suggesting most people living here support independence from Madrid. The so-called Peace of the Pyrenees recognized Spain's defeat, for which Phillip IV ceded 33 villages from the Querol Valley to France, among which should have been Llivia. But due to a technicality, the territory remained Spanish, having been named a villa and not a village 130 years earlier and still remains Spanish.
We crossed 5 boarders to and fro from France to Spain today to do the shopping…. Very odd 😀 hope you like todays photos. They're all becoming much the same with mountains and Roman churches 🤣 would love to hear of places you've really loved to stay at. Have you stayed at anywhere particular you like a lot and can recommend ?
